June 2006

Here she is, the next Canadian Idol, the one and only Princess Peanut Butter! And yes, as soon as she was home from the groomers she was back looking for some mud in the garden (I use the word garden loosely).

I have included a before picture, so you can see Noli as you remember her, and then the after pic of her in her summer outfit. I did not choose the cut, but her personality really shines through with it. I can see the mischief in her eyes and stance before she knows I’m watching. I will let her fur grow and bit and keep it close to the 1″ mark for the summer months.

Noli has taken to Paul so well, and him equally as much to her. We haven’t had a dog sleeping with us in seven years and yet there she is every night, sleeping on his side of the bed.  We are both so grateful that you trusted us with her, she is such a dear little soul.

Just a quick update to let you know Noelle is thoroughly loved and has adjusted very well to her new home. She still loves to snuggle, but with the onslaught of the heat this week she had taken a liking to the cool floor tiles. I have bathed her and trimmed her feet and inside her ears, and she is scheduled for a makeover this Wednesday – she has a groomers appointment and I’m sure she’ll be even more beautiful and hopefully more comfortable at the end of it. I will be dropping her off at 8:00 a.m. and picking her up at noon and already I feel like a mom leaving her child at kindergarten the first day.

I took her to our vet on Wednesday, her eye medication was running low, and I wanted the vet and Noelle to get acquainted. They have an eye specialist (he looks after my daughter’s blue-eyed shepherd) in their group (three vets/one building) so Noelle had her appointment with him. Oh yes, she tried to hit on a little Shih Tzu while we were waiting – the little guy was all for it, but his guardian was not – she is quite a flirt! Our vet put her on three new eye medications, plus one she had, for the next two weeks then would like to see her again. According to him her eyes have been sadly damaged by neglect, there were lashes and enlarged blood vessels in the eyes and a cataract forming. His hope is that we can heal the damage and make her more comfortable over time, but he very clearly said that it could not be repaired. I was very disappointed to hear this, but it hasn’t tempered her loving nature. Her overall health is good, her heart is strong and she starts her heartworm medication June 1st.

My husband was home all of last week and they are getting along fabulously. She is slowly getting used to the grandchildren – she has met three of the five we have, and I don’t see any problems there either.

Cheers for now and thank you again.

Both my husband and I are already in love with Noelle. My husband was talking on the phone to one of the girls today and told them Nolly was an “absolute angel” – I can’t believe a guy said that and I couldn’t agree with him more.

She spent the evening mostly in the back TV room with Bandit and us,  venturing about when the urge hit. She was quite comfortable exploring the backyard when it was time to go out – she seemed to like the muddy areas the most! She shadows Bandit, trying to get him to play, and they seem to have bonded very well. We left them alone for a while today (to take my mother-in-law out for dinner )and when we got back they both greeted us at the door barking and with tails a’wagging.

She actually climbed up on the couch beside my husband last night and gave him the little paw treatment to let him know she could use a scratch – he was more than happy to oblige although I think he got tired of scratching before she tired of being scratched.

Nolly has been here 24 hours now and hasn’t had one accident, so that isn’t going to be a problem. She slept right through the night and has no problem with her eye medication. Thank you for setting the pattern here and finding her weakness for peanut butter.

We bought her a bed to curl up in while we are at work (our bed is much too high for her to climb up and down without help) and a small food and water dish. She was hesitant to use the dish at first so I smeared the bottom of it with a little peanut butter – IT’S HER DISH NOW!

Thank you for trusting us with your little lady
